SAMARIA. Circa 375-333 BC. Obol (Silver, 10 mm, 0.61 g, 10 h), imitating Athens. Head of Athena to right, wearing crested Attic helmet decorated with three olive leaves and palmette. Rev. 𐡔𐡌𐡓𐡂 ('šmry' in Aramaic) Owl standing right, head facing; to left, olive sprig and crescent. Meshorer & Qedar 90 var. (differing reverse legend orientation). Sofaer -. An apparently unpublished variety. In exceptional condition for a Samarian obol, well struck and with a perfectly readable ethnic. Minor area of weakness on the owl, otherwise, extremely fine.
